DISCOVER THE 2026 WIRTZ PRESENTING SERIES

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We are on sacred ground. Northwestern University is on the traditional homelands of the people of the Council of Three Fires—the Ojibwe, Potawatomi, and Odawa—as well as the Menominee, Miami, and Ho-Chunk nations. Before it was stolen from them through colonization and forced removal, this land was a site of trade, travel, gathering, and healing for more than a dozen other native tribes. The state of Illinois is still home to more than 100,000 tribal members. In the spirit of healing and making amends for the harm that was done, we acknowledge the native and indigenous peoples who called this land home. We pledge ourselves as members of the Northwestern School of Communication to turn our statements into action and build better relationships with native and indigenous communities in Evanston, in Chicago, and throughout the region.

SPECIAL THANKS

Ruth Margraff (Accompanist) has been called “audaciously original” (Moscow Times) for her “fierce folk” (Austin Chronicle), style of “richly textured emotion…and imminent danger” (Dallas Morning News). Metzgar and Young as a directing duo have recently directed GRELLEY DUVAL V at the Chopin Theatre. Metzgar has won the national Edgerton New Play Award for her play YOU LOST ME which had its world premiere at the Denver Center Theatre in 2020. Her plays have been finalists for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Festival, and selected for the Great Plains Theater Conference in Omaha. She was commissioned by the NEA, the Goodman Theater, Sideshow Theatre and was formerly Artistic Director of About Face Theatre, one of the largest theaters in the US dedicated to producing LGBTQ artists and advancing the cultural dialogue on sexuality and gender identity.
